Covid-19 Delta and Alpha Variants No Longer Detected in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced that there have been no more Covid-19 cases of the Delta or Alpha variants detected in Cambodia, as the Omicron variant has become the dominant variant in the country. He made this announcement while delivering a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new flyover in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district on Monday morning.

Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that Cambodia now has more community cases than imported cases and that the Omicron variant has spread to all districts of Phnom Penh. He urged people to get vaccinated (both the two basic doses and the booster doses), and to continue implementing regular health measures.

"In Cambodia today, Delta and Alpha are gone, it is all Omicron. We really have Omicron cases, it has not killed anyone, but it spreads fast. So far, we have recorded more than 800 cases, but some have recovered. And we allow patients to go home for treatment,” he said.

According to Prime Minister, yesterday the Ministry of Health found 56 cases of the Covid-19 Omicron variant, of which only nine were imported. As of 30 January 2022, Cambodia has identified a total of 121,299 cases of Covid-19 infection, with 117,426 case recoveries and 3,015 deaths.
